Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense in the caretaker government, Zeina Akar, met with Minister of Interior and Municipalities in the caretaker government, Mohamed Fahmy, and the security conditions and the results of the general lockdown in the country were presented.
Minister Akar then inspected the advanced emergency room in the Beirut Municipality, and was informed by the head of the room, Sami Al-Howayek, about the room’s work and the progress made since the Beirut port explosion.
Minister Akar heard from the concerned officers a detailed explanation of how to distribute financial and food aid to those affected, through cooperation with civil and civil associations, in addition to receiving calls via the hotline and how to communicate with citizens to meet their needs. The numbers and statistics that were obtained were presented regarding the process of surveying the damages in the damaged buildings and residential units, and the methods of intervention in the rehabilitation, reconstruction and shelter operations.
The officers also provided explanations on how to follow up on affected citizens’ health and physical condition and provide them with assistance.
Akar called for “the necessity of continuing these efforts in order to continue helping those affected, especially with the decision of the President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, to disburse an amount of 50 billion pounds in addition to the 100 billion pounds that were distributed.”
She considered that “this experience will be a model for dealing with disasters if they occur, and will be put at the service of the army and the Lebanese state.”
